Why Metal
Why Northern Virginia Homeowners Choose Metal Roofing
Northern Virginia doesn't give your roof a break. Summer microbursts bring sudden, destructive wind gusts. Humidity feeds algae and moss growth. Winter freeze-thaw cycles crack and lift shingle seals. And wind events sweeping out of the Blue Ridge can strip an aging asphalt roof in minutes.
Metal roofing handles all of it. A properly installed standing seam metal roof resists wind speeds well over 100 mph, sheds snow and ice instead of trapping it, reflects solar heat to cut cooling costs in summer, and won't rot, crack, or grow algae the way asphalt does over time.
The lifespan difference is dramatic. Most asphalt shingle roofs last 20 to 25 years in this climate. A standing seam metal roof lasts 40 to 70 years. For homeowners planning to stay in their home long term, metal is often the last roof they'll ever need. And when it's time to sell, metal roofing consistently increases resale value because buyers know what they're getting: decades of remaining life with minimal upkeep.
What We Install
Metal Roofing Systems We Install
Standing Seam Metal Roofing
Standing seam is the gold standard of residential metal roofing. Raised seams lock panels together above the roof surface, creating a weathertight system with no exposed fasteners. That means no screw holes that can back out, corrode, or leak over time. Every panel interlocks cleanly with the next, and thermal expansion is handled through the hidden clip system rather than fighting against fixed screws.
We install both snap-lock and mechanical lock standing seam profiles. Snap-lock panels click together during installation and work well for standard roof pitches. Mechanical lock panels are seamed shut on the roof with a hand or electric seamer, creating the strongest wind-resistant connection available. We'll recommend the right system for your roof's pitch, geometry, and exposure.
Copper and Aluminum Roofing
For homeowners looking beyond steel, we also install standing seam systems in aluminum and copper. Aluminum is naturally corrosion-resistant and lightweight, making it a strong choice for coastal or high-humidity environments. Copper is the premium option, developing a natural patina over time and lasting well over a century with proper installation. Both materials are formed on-site using the same process as our steel panels.
Standing Seam
Standing Seam: The Most Popular Choice in NoVA
Standing seam metal roofing has become the most requested metal roofing system across Northern Virginia, and for good reason. It's the most weather-resistant, longest-lasting, and cleanest-looking metal roofing option available for residential homes. Here's what you need to know about the technical details.
Snap-Lock vs Mechanical Lock
These are the two ways standing seam panels connect to each other on the roof.
Snap-lock panels have a male and female edge that click together during installation. They're faster to install, work well on roofs with a pitch of 3:12 or steeper, and are the most common choice for straightforward residential roof geometries.
Mechanical lock panels are folded shut on the roof using a seaming tool after installation. This creates a tighter, more wind-resistant connection. We recommend mechanical lock for lower-pitch roofs, areas with extreme wind exposure, or any project where maximum weather resistance is the priority.
24-Gauge vs 26-Gauge Steel
Gauge refers to the thickness of the steel. Lower numbers mean thicker metal.
24-gauge steel is thicker, more rigid, and better at resisting dents from hail or falling branches. It also handles wind loads more effectively because it's harder to flex. For most Northern Virginia homes, we recommend 24-gauge as the better long-term investment.
26-gauge steel is thinner and lighter. It's a solid material that performs well, but it's more susceptible to oil-canning (a visual waviness in flat panel surfaces) and denting. It can be the right call for specific applications like smaller structures, covered porches, or budget-conscious projects where the priority is getting metal on the roof.
Panel Widths and Profiles
Our roll-former produces panels in widths from 9 inches to 24 inches, adjustable on-site to match your roof's specifications.
Narrower panels (9 to 12 inches) create more seam lines, giving the roof a more defined, architectural look. They're popular on historic homes or projects where aesthetics drive the decision. Wider panels (16 to 24 inches) cover more area with fewer seams, which can create a cleaner, more modern appearance and slightly reduce installation time. We'll help you choose the width that looks right on your home and performs best for your roof geometry.
What Sets Us Apart
On-Site Panel Forming With Our VS-150
Most metal roofing contractors order pre-cut panels from a supplier, wait for delivery, and hope the measurements are right. We do it differently.
We own a VS-150 portable roll-former that we bring directly to your job site. We pick up coil stock from our regional supplier, transport it to your home with the roll-former, and form every panel on-site to the exact length your roof requires. No splices on long runs. No shipping damage. No waiting on a supplier's production schedule. Panels are formed and installed the same day.
This is a real competitive advantage for homeowners with long, uninterrupted roof runs or complex roof geometries where custom panel lengths make a measurable difference in weather protection and appearance.

Cost
Metal Roof Cost in Northern Virginia
Every metal roof project is different. Roof size, pitch, complexity, gauge, profile choice, panel widths, material (steel, aluminum, or copper), and the condition of the existing roof structure all affect the final number. Anyone quoting you a price without seeing your roof first is guessing.
The honest answer on cost is: we'll come look at your roof, talk through your options, and write you a real estimate with line-by-line detail so you know exactly what you're paying for and why. No pressure, no surprises.
What we can tell you is that metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt shingles. That's the reality. But when your metal roof is still performing perfectly 40 or 50 years from now with virtually no maintenance, the math makes sense. Most asphalt roofs need full replacement two or three times in the same window.

Metal Roofing FAQ
A properly installed standing seam metal roof lasts 40 to 70 years depending on the material. Steel with a quality paint system can reach 50 years or more. Aluminum lasts even longer because it doesn't corrode. Copper can last well over a century. Compare that to 20 to 25 years for a typical asphalt shingle roof in our climate, and you can see why homeowners who plan to stay in their homes long term choose metal.
Every metal roof project is different. Roof size, pitch, complexity, material, gauge, and profile all play a role. The honest answer is: we'll come look at your roof, talk through your options, and write you a real estimate. We don't publish price ranges because they'd either be so broad they're useless or so specific they'd be wrong for your roof. Call (703) 434-0697 or request a free estimate.
Snap-lock panels click together during installation. They're faster to install and work well on standard and steep roof pitches. Mechanical lock panels are seamed shut on the roof with a seaming tool, creating a tighter connection with better wind resistance. We recommend mechanical lock for lower-pitch roofs or areas with heavy wind exposure. Both systems use hidden fasteners with no exposed screws.
On a properly installed residential metal roof, the noise difference is minimal. Your roof deck, underlayment, and attic insulation all sit between the metal panels and your living space. Most homeowners tell us they can't hear a difference at all once the roof is finished. The "metal roof is loud" concern comes from agricultural buildings and carports where metal is installed directly over open framing with no insulation.
In some cases, yes. Local building codes in Northern Virginia generally allow one layer of metal over one layer of existing shingles if the structure can support the weight and the existing roof is in acceptable condition. However, we typically recommend a full tear-off. Removing the old shingles lets us inspect the decking for rot or damage, ensure proper underlayment, and deliver a cleaner, longer-lasting installation.
Many Virginia insurance carriers offer discounts for metal roofing because of its fire resistance, wind resistance, and impact resistance. The discount varies by carrier and policy, so we'd recommend calling your insurer and asking about their specific metal roof discount. It's a question worth asking before you make your final material decision.
We install 24-gauge and 26-gauge steel. 24-gauge is thicker, more rigid, and more resistant to denting and oil-canning. It handles heavy wind loads and hail better than 26-gauge. For most Northern Virginia homes, we recommend 24-gauge as the stronger long-term choice. 26-gauge is a lighter option that works well for secondary structures, covered porches, or projects where budget is the primary concern.
